Meet the wild team
In order to create the extraordinary, you need an exceptional team that's willing to exceed industry standards and commit to a new level of creative design. Each member of the Wild Team brings a unique perspective and specialized area of expertise to fulfill any floral request imaginable.
Maya, the owner and founder of Wildflower, is among Iowa’s leading floral and event planning designers. Since its first opening in 2009, Maya has created an extraordinary name for herself and her brand for her uniquely artistic design concepts and remarkable technical level. It’s no surprise why Maya’s work continuously raises the bar in her industry. By staying on the cusp on national and international trends, she has taken inspiration from all over the world and incorporated it in her daily designs. From a young age growing up in southern England, Maya always knew she was born an absolute creative. It wasn’t until her early twenties where she found her true passion in florals that led to the creation of wildflower a few years later. As a loving wife to her husband and partner Erich, a full time mom of 3 wonderful children and a dedicated business owner, Maya wears many hats in her day-to-day life and loves every second of it.
Hey, Y'all! I'm a South Texas native whose Mexican roots run deep; which explains my appreciation for good guacamole, flour tortillas, and a mean jalapeño margarita. I graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a degree in Communications/Public Relations. Over the last 10 years, I've diversified my background in the event industry with experience in guest services and sales for a hotel, creating awareness campaigns & chairing fundraising galas for non-profits, coordinating concerts & exhibitor shows for media stations, and working directly with clients for weddings & private dinners on behalf of a venue and catering company. I'm a true ENFP, motivated and inspired by those around me - my partner, family, friends, colleagues, and clients. As a DSM transplant, I love to give back to a community that has embraced me through volunteering for organizations, frequenting the outstanding restaurant and bar scene, and checking out local art and music. All this to say I'm more than excited to lend my experiences with the creative force and talent that is Wildflower.
Hello, I’m Lacey! I’m originally from small town USA, also know as Northeast Iowa. I officially settled here in Des Moines 10 Years ago. When I was 15 years old I got my first job at a flower shop, I knew right away that floral design was it for me. I absolutely fell in love and couldn’t believe that I could do this as a job, forever! I went on to get my degree in Floral Design and Landscape. I’ve worked in the floral, wedding & events industry for 30+ years now. During that time I’ve dabbled in a little bit of everything, from owning my own floral shop to doing special events and working with other amazing people designing for their businesses. I even run an online Etsy shop where I sell handmade faux wreaths. I really do love all aspects of this business. I get to spend my days playing with beautiful flowers, designing them to make people smile. The only thing that would make it even better is if I could work on the beach, surrounded by my family! I have two kiddos who are now grown but will forever be my babies. Spending time with them is my favorite pastime. Throw in a little football, invite over some more family and friends, cook for them and I’m about as happy as can be.
I’m Megan, also known as the baby of the group! I was born and raised in the Des Moines area where my love for floral design began when I was just 15 years old. I recently graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in event management - go Cyclones! When I’m not hustling in the shop, I enjoy taking care of my plant babies, going to an Iowa State football tailgate or spending time at the dog park with my rescue pup Freddy. Wildflower combines my two passions, floral design & event planning, and I’m so excited to be a part of this team!
Hello I am Marne! I was born and raised in Des Moines. I have a love for sun and sand and attempted young adulthood in California. When I couldn’t make it as a movie star I moved back to Des Moines I began my lifelong career doing events and weddings in both food and decor. I have literally had a hand in thousands of events. I originally attended school to be a buyer of clothing and have now ended up buying flowers which couldn’t be more perfect for me, an avid shopper! I have two beautiful children that I love spending time with. I am a foodie and enjoy cooking food of all ethnicities especially Italian which is where my family comes from. I am absolutely loving the team and vibe at Wildflower and I am super excited to be doing fabulous things in Des Moines with Maya's artistic visions!
Hi my name is Nanci! I grew up in Ankeny and attended school at Grandview University. I received an art degree and worked for a contemporary furniture company painting for several years. I recently was given an opportunity to work at Wildflower. I have always enjoyed growing flowers and designing them in my yard. I am excited to start a new adventure with Maya and the team at Wildflower. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and 3 sons.
I’m Franklin, I grew up in the country outside of Carroll. From a young age I was interested in gardening and design leading me to the floral world in high school. Post school I moved to the metro area where I continued in floral design specializing in large events. Outside of Wildflower I work as a real estate appraiser. In my free time you can usually find me on the running trail training for a race or just taking my dog Stella for a walk. Other hobbies include playing the piano or violin and tearing up my yard to add another garden bed.
Hi hello! I’m Meg, I’m new around here. I moved to Des Moines in July of 2020 after deciding to close my wedding floral business in Indianapolis and go back to school. I’m a nursing student at Mercy College of Health Sciences and have loved being able to keep my hands in flowers with my new Wildflower family.
I’m originally from San Diego, where my heart will always be. I moved to Boston, Massachusetts for college (my first attempt), where I was a songwriting major at Berklee College of Music. After realizing I’d much rather work with my hands, I transferred to Parsons New School in New York to study painting. And like all tragic stories, I met a boy and followed him to the Midwest. We had my daughter, Eleanor, in Chicago. It was there I started to realize flowers were my new medium. Life took me and my kiddo to Indianapolis where I started my floral business, specializing in weddings and events and held strong for 7 years. Once covid hit, I knew I wanted to be closer to family and change things up a bit. I have fallen in love with Des Moines and the community surrounding Wildflower. I’ve never laughed so much on a daily basis working with this wonderful group of humans. I’m so excited to see where this new life in Iowa will take me next.
